Filtering reduces the speckle noise and improves the quality of an image (see below). Filtered and georeferenced SAR images are e.g. used as base maps for rapid mapping applications. The example beside shows a multitemporally filtered JERS backscatter image of the northern Tokyo area. Pixel spacing is 20m. Data copyright NASDA, processing GAMMA.
